Lucknow: Vanshraj Jalota and Anuruddh Kumar secured places in the singles final of the Brij Mohan Lal Tiwari Memorial AITA Championship Series Under-18 Tennis Tournament with hard-fought semifinal victories on Thursday. Meanwhile, Aarav Bhaskar and Anuruddh Kumar clinched the doubles title, putting Anuruddh in contention for a double crown.
Organised by the SDS Tennis Academy under the aegis of the Uttar Pradesh Tennis Association, the TVS-sponsored tournament is being held at the La Martiniere Lawn Tennis Facility at La Martiniere College in Lucknow.
In the singles semifinals, top seed Vanshraj Jalota of Uttar Pradesh defeated fifth seed Aarav Bhaskar 6-2, 6-7(3), 6-3. After taking the opening set, Vanshraj lost the second-set tiebreak but recovered to win the decider.
Third seed Anuruddh Kumar overcame second seed Faiz Kidwai 6-7(5), 6-2, 6-4. Despite losing the opening set in a tiebreak, Anuruddh regrouped to win the next two sets and book his place in the final.
In the doubles final, second seeds Aarav Bhaskar and Anuruddh Kumar defeated fourth seeds Virat Singh and Dhruv Singh 7-6(7), 7-5 to lift the trophy. Both sets were closely contested, but Aarav and Anuruddh held their nerve at crucial moments to seal the championship.
Anuruddh will now aim to cap his campaign with a second title when he competes in the singles final.
